Auzentech X-fi Forte 7.1 Soundcard ReviewAlbum: Three doors Down: Away from the SunTracks: Here without You, Away from the Sun

Here without You
These are great tracks for testing as they contain great acoustic guitar tracks. The Forte allowed the character of the acoustic guitar, the strings and "woodiness" for the instrument to be easily heard the card relayed a great deal of expression from the track. The vocal was very clear and great character could be heard. The test track sounded very layered and had a great deal of depth when played back on the Forte 7.1

Away from the Sun
The bass in Away from the sun is quite large and I found some card can make it sound overwhelming and "boomy" or "tubby" The Forte, keeps the Bass under control and allows the signature of the instrument to come through. There was no noticeable smearing of details or confusions on complicated passages.

Album:Kid Rock, Devil without a CauseTracks: Only god Knows why and Bawitdaba Bawitdaba great test songs as the song is very busy and fast andcan test a cards clarity and detail. The song came through with any smearing or loss of detail. The card also allowed the character of the vocals to come through quite well. Only God knows whyThe acoustic nature of this song allows a great test for sound gear. The forte 7.1 brought through a great deal of micro detail allowing one to hear the size of the recording venue. The song sounded very open airy and detailed. I have to listen to that one again. Album tested: Metallica Master of PuppetsTested tracks: Master of Puppets and Welcome home (Sanitarium) Master of PuppetsThe forte allowed the character of the distorted guitar to come through quite nice, instead of just hearing distortion you can hear more of the texture of the instrument. This song can become very busy at times and the card kept up perfectly, no smearing or loss of any detail was noticed. James' voice also came through with detail allowing you to hear the trail off and the depth of the vocal.Welcome Home (Sanitarium)This is a slower guitar tracks came through sounding very good and offering a great deal of expressiveness. The drums in this song sounded very clear and articulate. Vocals, guitars and drums all came through clearly without any confusion or smearing across the mix. You could also hear the tube texture of the guitar as opposed to just hearing a distorted sound, the guitar showed great deal of texture through this card. Album Tested: Ozzy Osbourne Black RainTested Tracks: Here for you and I Don't Wanna StopHere for You This song is layered with piano, orchestra instruments and electric guitar allowing a great test track. The Forte reproduced this song easily, offering highly pronounced piano sound. Detail and layering without congestion or confusion everything produced as presented in the mix.I Don't Wanna StopThis song is driven by a thumping bass and the Forte offered great sound without sounding bloated or overwhelming in the lower registers. The guitar comes through and soars across the mix without sounding crowded or confused. Great vocals offering character and great tone without sounding flat or lifeless again the Forte offers great character and musicality. 50 Cent - Get Rich or Die TryingTrack tested: In Da ClubIn Da ClubThis is another track with driving bass lines and kick drums. The forte produced the bass easily offering small details making the bass drum sound layered and right in your face. The tracks offered great depth and didn't sound flat or 2 dimensional when auditioned on the Forte 7.1 Album Tested Dr.Dre - 2001Tested Tracks: The Nest Episode, Still Dre. The Next EpisodeWhat I noticed when listening to this track is how real the Kick drum sounded. There wasn't just a thump, thump... The Forte 7.1 allowed much more detail about the bass to come through. The Vocal line was up front in the mix and offered a great deal of tone and articulation.Still Dre. The vocal came through easily with great clarity, musicality and tone. The forte offered great layered sound quality making you move or tap your foot to the bass. The melody came right out front also driving the song. No smearing of detail in any of the tested tracks. Disclaimer: Please understand, this is my personal impression of the card written while listening to the card and using the headphones/monitors listed. Describing sonic and acoustic qualities is very difficult. Your gear and ears will vary, so your impressions and interpretation of the tested tracks may also vary. We attempted to use tracks with diverse mixes and genres to try and gauge as accurately as possible the card overall sound signature. Please take it as just an opinion, yours will undoubtedly vary.
